The all new Skoda Rapid to challenge VW Vento and Maruti SX4

It seems that this time Skoda has decided to give VW Vento a tough challenge by introducing its new Rapid. Slated to be launched this Diwali, Skoda Rapid saloon is an addition to the series of Rapid moniker which Skoda has used earlier as well. Talking of what is in, both the VM saloon and the new Skoda Rapid have the same mechanical specifications including the engines and it comes in 1.6 petrol and diesel variants giving out 105 bhp power.

However, the major difference in fact will be the pricing of the Skoda Rapid, which is expected to be price lower than the Vento in order to creep into and steal VW Vento's market share. The price cut would certainly have its toll on some of the features of Rapid and car lovers may miss some equipment in it. The Vision D concept car shown in Geneva will heavily inspire the design of the new Rapid. Besides, bold lines and beautifully crafted exteriors are some extras than the Vento. The one thing that would be missing would be the hatch that has been sacrificed for keeping the price of the car down.

The thumbs up in Rapid would be its traditional boot. In addition, the Rapid we will also find the Skoda's updated chrome on black logo. The best part Skoda's challenge to VW is that in the process, Skoda also plans to launch an affordable version of Rapid priced somewhat akin to Maruti SX4 between Rs7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)  for petrol version and Rs7.8 (ex-showroom, Delhi) lakh for the diesel variant.
