Now with the petrol price pushing to Rs 70 a litre, General Motors are all set to put market on fire (pun unintended) by the launch of Chevrolet Beat Diesel. The launch of Chevrolet Beat Diesel hatchback with the diesel engine is an aim to fulfil the demands of affordable diesel cars. General Motors is otherwise known for its cut-throat price range, which has for once come up with value –for-money proposition. After being tested at the General Motor Talegaon Plant in Maharashtra, the specifications of Chevrolet Beat Diesel has been released sometime back. The 3-cylinder diesel engine has been specifically designed for Indian roads; which is based on 1.3 litre Fiat Multi Jet which General Motors has taken from Fiat. However, the General Motors engineers have made some modifications with the engine by reducing the engine capacity to 937 cc from its actual 4 cylinder 1.3 Litre version. The Chevrolet Beat Diesel engine produces a torque of 150 Nm at 1750 RPM which is extraordinary for a small sized car to produce as much. The engine is capable of pumping 58.5PS power at 4000 RPM which is not very high by ordinary standards, but the high torque provides an impact the driver expects from such a compact car.
