The India-bound Entry-level MG EV Is The Official Car For The Upcoming G20 Summit

The two-door EV will be used to ferry delegates and other powerful people at the global event in Indonesia

The Wuling Air EV is a new take on the not-so-original idea of a tiny electric car for urban use. Recent spy shots of the same in India suggest it is expected to make its way to our country. Meanwhile, Wuling has provided around 300 units of the EV to the G20 Summit at Bali as the event’s official vehicle.

The Air EV could be offered in India as an MG model, which is under the same umbrella of SAIC-owned automotive brands as Wuling Motors. The Air EV is a two-door EV with four seats and a fairly modern console with dual integrated displays atop the dashboard. In its Indonesian specification, it is equipped with a rear view camera, power-adjustable ORVMs, dual airbags, ABS and ESC. At less than three metres in length, it’s smaller than even the Maruti Alto by nearly half a metre.

The micro-EV gets the choice of two sizes for its lithium ferro-phosphate battery pack: 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh. Both versions power an electric motor that produces 41PS of power and drives the rear wheels. The smaller battery variant has a claimed range of up to 200km while the other claims it can do 300km.

216 of the 300 units plying at the G20 Summit will be the long range variants. All of these cars will be draped in a variety of colourful liveries celebrating the host country of Indonesia. It will be used to transport delegates from all attending nations and world organisations around the venue.

While MG has not outright confirmed the Air EV for the Indian market, it did reveal its plan to introduce an entry-level EV in 2023 priced between Rs 10-15 lakh (ex-showroom). This could be that EV, positioned as an affordable urban runabout to rival the likes of the Tata Tiago EV but with more tech on board.
