Fiat motors has finally revealed the pictures and details of the second generation Fiat Uno officially. The production of the car is expected to begin in Brazil at the Betim plant of the company. The car is speculated to go on sale later this month in Brazil and would be available in two flex-fuels petrol engines.

One of the petrol variants would have a 1.0-litre petrol engine that is expected to produce power of up to 75bhp. The other variant would have a 1.4-litre petrol engine that would deliver a maximum of 85bhp of power. Both the variants however would sport a five speed manual gear box transmission.

The new Uno has been positioned between Panda and the Grande Punto, sources suggest. The car would measure 3.77m in length and 1.64m in width. The styling of the car is majorly based on that of the Panda’s but the car is intelligently redesigned with more smooth curves and an attractive front grille giving the car a great external appearance.

Fiat Uno was launched in India in 1997 and was manufactured at Premier Auto’s Kurla plant in mid-town Mumbai. The bookings saw a maddening rush initially and that at that time ended up in long waiting lists for the car. The plant at Kurla suffered with labour issues over a period of time and this led to the car not performing well in the country.

The Uno launched earlier in India was BS II complaint as that was the regulation standard set up then. Although there are speculations that the second generation Uno might be launched in India, but there are no official details on that as of now. It is however clear that this time the car needs to be backed by localized manufacturing input to land the car in the right price bracket.

Good looking is one thing the Uno will never be. I think it's kind of a tradition. I prefer Fiat's city cars myself but each to their own. The Uno is supposed to have very good fuel economy too and that is more important than looks. But I still think it's ugly.
