The top five models includes only one SUV as opposed to two in the previous month

July has been a good month for the automotive industry, with most carmakers seeing even more sales than they did for the same month in 2019. Leading the charge is Maruti which is once again near its monthly sales mark of 1 lakh units. So it’s not much of a surprise to see that seven of the ten best selling models for July 2020 were from the Maruti Suzuki lineup. The rest includes two Hyundai models and one from Kia. Unlike the previous month that saw two SUVs among the three top selling models, the top three rankings for July were hatchbacks of different sizes and the same make. In fact, this month’s list contains only two SUVs: the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Here’s a look at the exact numbers:

Key Takeaways

  • The Maruti Alto continued its dominance at the top of the table in July with nearly double the number of units sold in June.

  • Not far behind the Alto is another model from Maruti’s stable: the Wagon R. Maruti shipped over 13,500 units of the compact hatchback this July.

  • Another Maruti model, the Baleno, climbed up from the seventh spot in June 2020 to become the third best selling car in July.

  • Even though the Hyundai Creta’s MoM figures (month-on-month) figures went up in July 2020 , it slipped to fourth place this month. It was just 26 units behind the Maruti Baleno.

  • The Maruti Swift makes a comeback on the sales chart, clocking more than 10,000 units in the last month.

  • The Maruti Dzire is the only ‘sedan’ to feature on the list in July. Maruti sold a little over 9,000 units of its sub-4m sedan.

  • Maruti’s Ertiga has also returned to the top 10 monthly best seller list with 8,504 units of the MPV shipped. That’s more than double its June 2020 sales.

  • With 8,501 units sold, the final Maruti on the list, the Eeco, followed the Ertiga closely.

  • Hyundai shipped 8,368 units of the Grand i10 Nios, helping it take the eighth spot on the July sales chart.

The second SUV on the table, the Kia Seltos, came in at tenth place with 8,270 units being shipped. It has slid down the order a lot despite increased sales considering it was the third best-selling model in June 2020 sales.
