Toyota, world’s top ranked automaker aims to increase its sales up by 6 percent from 2009 and intends to sell 8.27 million vehicles worldwide showing the peers its recovery after the global economic slowdown. In 2009 Toyota Motor Corp. sales were down by 13 per cent and had sold 7.81 vehicles worldwide including small models and truck manufactured by its group companies Daihatsu Motor Co and Hino Motors respectively.

The late 2008 financial crisis hindered the growth of the Toyota. The automaker was also affected by the two recalls which they had made in U.S. to fix the accelerator pedals. It had recalled around 4.2 million vehicles in the month of November last year which was a huge blow to its brand image.

In recent years Toyota had been focussing into small truck segment as well as larger vehicles segment despite sticking to the small cars as larger vehicles deliver large profit in North American market. Also it had been moving to Asian markets like China for growth opportunities.

In 2010 Toyota targets to raise its growth by 13 percent from last year and intends to sell more than 800,000 vehicles in China  and 62,000 vehicles in India, up 12 percent.
