Japan based leading car maker Toyota Motor Corp is expected to recall as much as 2,70,000 units of its vehicles worldwide due to a possible fault with the engine glitch, reported a domestic news paper in Japan on Friday. The news further adds that possible recall could cost the Auto giant up to 20 billion yen ($228 million). However, the same could not be confirmed from the company's side.
The company said in a statement that it would file a recall on Monday which will include 90,000 units of its high-end sedans. It has been more than 9 months since the world's largest car maker is struggling with a string of recalls of its vehicles worldwide. The frequently surfacing faults in the Toyota vehicles have triggered a question mark on the long praised safety and quality oriented manufacturing of the Toyota Motors. The company has recalled more than 10 million vehicles globally since last September, among which about 80% vehicles were recalled due to the complains of sticking acceleration paddles that risked a potential unintended acceleration.
According to an official at the Japan's transport ministry, he had been informed that Toyota was also planning a recall in North America and Europe. Company's officials in the United States have already stated that the company is about to complete an internal investigation into the engines. However, any official statement on the recall is still to be made by the company.
