Toyota Slips by 2 spots in Dependability Study

Toyota Motor, world's largest car maker which is currently struggling to catch-up with one the biggest-ever vehicle recall, has slipped for the second consecutive year in a popular vehicle dependability study released on Thursday. The news came at a time when Japan based car
maker is already struggling with biggest ever safety recalls with call back of more then 8 million vehicles world wide.

The brand 'Toyota' is down to sixth position, from its fourth position in year 2009 in the J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study. The study takes problems occurred in first three years of vehicle purchase as the base in testing vehicles dependability.


However, the Toyota Prius hybrid model has been placed among most dependable models in its segment. Besides Prius, three other models under Toyota portfolio has been placed as most dependable in their segments.


On the other hand in luxury car segment the Toyota Lexus placed at third spot with General Motors's Buick Brand. In this study about
52,000 people (owners of 2007 model-year vehicles) asked to give their responses in the period of October to December last year.

Besides this Ford Motors, US based car maker performed very well in this study with all its brands including Ford, Lincoln and Mercury
managed to find a place in top 10 brands list. Honda's flagship line and the blue oval Ford followed Toyota Motors in the study.

According to J.D. Power, for brand like Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai, Lincoln and Mercury, the perception have not kept pace with their
actual performance.
