Toyota Taisor India Launch Date Confirmed, Maruti Fronx-based Crossover Yet To Be Revealed

The Maruti Fronx-based Toyota SUV will get both naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol engine options

• It is yet to be officially revealed, but we expect design changes to the front end for differentiation from the Fronx.

• Features will include a 9-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, a heads-up display, and a 360-degree camera.

• It will become the 6th shared product between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki to be sold in India.

• Expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Toyota Taisor is all set to enter the Indian market as the Japanese carmaker has confirmed that the Maruti Fronx based crossover SUV will be launched on April 3. The rebadged version of the Fronx will come with the same engine options and features, but with a slightly different design to differentiate it from the Fronx. Here is what all will be on offer.

Powertrains

Like other Maruti-Toyota shared products, the engine and transmission options will be the same as the Fronx. The Taisor will get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (90 PS/113 Nm) which will be paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. It will also come with the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (100 PS/148 Nm) which will get the option of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This could also be the first Toyota-badged mass-market turbo-petrol offering in India

The Fronx also comes with the option of a CNG powertrain with its 1.2-litre petrol engine, and we expect Toyota to offer the same. But, it is unlikely that the CNG powertrain will be available at launch; and Toyota might add this powertrain sometime in the future.

Here as well, the Taisor will get everything that you get on the Fronx. Its features list will comprise of a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

In terms of safety, it will offer up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera. However, the cabin is expected to be differentiated not only by the badges, but also in terms of the colour scheme. The Toyota version is likely to feature a lighter interior compared to the black and burgundy seen in the Maruti model.

Price & Rivals

Given the price of the Maruti Fronx, we expect the Toyota Taisior will be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). Its variants could carry a slight premium over their Maruti-badged counterparts. Given that Toyota does not currently compete in the sub-4m SUV segment, this crossover will also be a rival to the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
