Though not many are encountered within the range of the eyesight, we can definitely say that the craze for the Mutli Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is slowly building up in the country. In a layman terms, a car with the largest interior space minus the rugged look of an SUV is an MPV. Taller than any hatchback and longer than any sedan, a thorough SUV, but deceptively wrapped in the clothes of some decent cover up is an ideal definition of an MPV according to me. An MPV on an overview has the capacity to accommodate an entire family of a large size throwing in all the essentials and you are all set for the long journey ahead. What more can a customer ask for, if the car comes at an affordable price tag. The string of upcoming MPV launches tells us, why the MPVs are worth the buy.

An MPV with rugged good looks and amazing road presence all in the same package is delivered practically as Chevrolet Tavera. The revamped version lives up to everybodys’ imagination with the space of an MPV and the common rail turbo diesel engine to generate the unmatched power. The new Chevrolet Tavera is priced at Rs 8 lakhs to step over the closest rivals with crystal clear determination.

The Mahindra Xylo Mini proves that size is irrelevant as it is the interiors space that counts. Mahindra Xylo Mini offers ample space despite its compact form of sub four meter length, a chopped off version of Mahindra Xylo, but only in size. No compromise in power though with the 70 Bhp top power output on the 1.5 L 3-cylinder engine. Again, don’t overlook the price tag of Rs 5 lakhs, which covers for everything else. The new MPV from Maruti India is to lift the bars of expectations this time in both, within the company and in the industry. It is expected to be major deviation from Maruti’s two cars in the SUV segment, the Gypsy and Maruti Grand Vitara. Trying to target two birds with a single stone, Maruti India is expected to launch the Ertiga MPV at Rs 8 lakhs with the potential to compete against Toyota Innova.

All the car manufacturers seem to target Toyota Innova in the MPV segment, Nissan is the right example while we are on the subject. Nissan NV200 is literally huge, with the seating capacity of 10 passengers and needs no further explanation on this. The size speaks for itself for this Rs 14 lakhs worth MPV, which is going to be introduced for the first time in India. Nissan NV200 is available globally until now is soon going to break covers in India. Toyota Motors intends to continue the dominance of the Innova MPV with the Toyota Innova Facelift. With the revamped MPV launch, the auto major kills all the hope for its rivals to survive. A thorough makeover is expected from the car with the newer competitors cropping up from every corner. 2012 Toyota Innova is expected to be priced at Rs 10-14 lakhs. The Force MPV is expected to bring the fun back into the life by going down the memory lanes with the MPV version after the launch of Force One SUV.  The new MPV from the domestic car manufacturer Force Motors is expected be around with the same price tag of Rs 10 lakhs. With oodles and oodles of space around, the MPV is invaluable.
