Volkswagen India could bring a new SUV by 2013

Rumor has it that the Czech car manufacturer Skoda is evaluating options to bring a brand new SUV by the year 2013 from the parent company, Volkswagen. The firm is expecting its sales figure to amplify up to 50% in 2012. Skoda’s new offering Rapid has been successful to attract aplenty bookings. According to a member of Sales and Marketing of Skoda, the Volkswagen group is setting up another production line at its Aurangabad plant which would assist in manufacturing a brand new Sports Utility vehicle by 2013.
The firm will make an official announcement regarding the fresh investment for the purpose in coming months. However, no further details have been revealed about the new SUV that is planned to be rolled out next year. At present, the most loved SUVs in India comprise of Tata Safari, Toyota Fortuner, BMW X1 and Mahindra Bolero.
Volkswagen Group recently made an announcement to invest a minimum of Rs. 2000 crore in India by 2012 to intensify the capacity and launch of new models along with strengthening research activities. As of now, the VW group has two manufacturing units in India, one in Chakan and the other one in Aurangabad in Maharashtra. The Chakan plant capacity is expected to be enlarged to 1.3 lakh units per year in 2012 from 1.1 lakh units. On the other hand, Aurangabad currently manufactures 20,000 units per year.
