Volkswagen may launch new small car in India by 2011

Volkswagen, a leading German car maker, which had recently launched its much anticipated Volkswagen Polo model in the Indian market, is now speculated to be working on its plans of launching a new small car in the Indian market by year 2011. It is expected that the new small car of the company will be rolled-out in the price segment of Sub Rs 3 lakh which will possibly be named as Volkswagen Up! in the country. According to industry reports the company may also plan to Volkswagen Lupo model in the Indian market as the car reportedly caught testing in the united stated. The car is expected to come powered with a 1.2 L petrol engine and is expected to compete with this likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Santro Xing after its launch in the Indian market. The car is also expected to be featuring front spoilers. However, the company is yet to made any official announcement in this regard.
The launch of this small car will mark the entry of this German car maker in the volume driving segment of Sub Rs 3 lakh. The Volkswagen Up model was introduced in the Germany's Frankfurt Auto Show 2007 where it attracted large crowed of car enthusiasts. It is basically a four seater car which carries enough space to accommodate 4 adults comfortably. It also carries a never before flat folding seat system. The unique seats of Volkswagen Up! are claimed to be air inflatable which makes them fit every body shape. With this, it is claimed to be having a considerably high fuel economy along with a significantly low emission level.
Moreover. the company has launched a new entry-level sedan Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market. The first unit of Vento will hit the Indian roads in the first week of next month.
