Volvo cars have always been known for being sturdy and are considered to be very safe. This benefit is soon going to be further enhanced. Volvo is working technologies which will help them reduce the number of death tolls due to road accidents. For this they are developing three features, viz, autonomous driving support, intersection support and animal detection. With these advancements they wish to cross their own standards, which are already seen as very high when it comes to safety.
The autonomous driving support will help ease driving in times of heavy traffic. Under this system the camera and radar will help detect the car which is in front and help sense and detect times when the car presses the brake suddenly or changes the direction quickly. In such cases, the engine, brakes and steering will react automatically. This system will also help drivers stay in their lanes, especially in times when queues are formed. The second feature, which is the interesection support, uses an in-built sensor which reads traffic conditions. In case a situation arises, the system can apply the car's brakes automatically.
This feature is as humanistic as it can get since it will try and react the same way a person would during an emergency situation, said an 'Active Safety Functions' spokesperson. Thirdy, the Animal Detection feature is also one of the splendid system that Volvo Cars are working on. This system will apply the car brakes if an approaching accident is detected by it. With these features, Volvo is also trying to reduce the speed leading up to the impact. With these features Volvo might actually make a break-through with their models. Currently in India, they are a lesser known car brand but since Indian market have finally started looking beyond the conventional car manufacturers.
