Volvo India is trying hard to carve a niche for itself in the domestic market, which is dominated by German car makers. According to a fresh report, Volvo is planning to bring in a small car in the Indian car market by March 2013. Rolling out a small car in the Indian car bazaar would certainly be a positive move by the company. The report suggests that this small luxury car will land between the price range of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh. The new small car will be identified as Volvo V40 and is likely to be revealed at the prominent and much anticipated Geneva Motor Show scheduled in March 2012. The new V40 will be based on the S40 platform, and will directly compete with Mercedes Benz B Class that is also expected to be launched in the country in early 2013.
As per the Managing director of Volvo India, Mr. Tomas Ernberg, 2012 will witness two international launches, out of which one will be a small vehicle that would make its way to India. Launching this new car in India will certainly aid the firm in gaining high revenue. Recently, Volvo India also launched cheaper variants of Volvo S60, S 80 sedans and Volvo XC60 SUV. The price of Volvo S60 and Volvo S 80 starts at Rs. 23.99 lakh and Rs. 31.99 lakh respectively, while the entry level variant of Volvo CX60 is priced at Rs. 33.99 lakh. All these new variants are powered with a 2 litre, five cylinder turbo D3 diesel motor, which will deliver enhanced and improved fuel efficiency.
