Volkswagen has launched more affordable automatic variants of the Polo and Vento at Rs 9.19 lakh (Highline Plus) and Rs 11.49 lakh (Highline) (ex-showroom), respectively. For the ongoing festive season, the carmaker has also introduced limited run Red and White Editions based on the newly added variants at no extra premium. The carmaker is offering the Polo special edition in Flash Red, Sunset Red and Candy White, while the Vento special edition can be had in the last two.
In terms of changes, the Polo special edition features a white or black roof, white or black ORVM housing, a ‘Red and White’ badge on the front fenders, a white or black spoiler, sun blinds, and white decals at the bottom of the doors. The Vento special edition, on the other hand, features the same changes, albeit only in black. Apart from these revisions, both models share their equipment list with the variants they are based on. This includes cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and auto AC.
Since these are special editions, they feature no mechanical changes. Both the Polo and Vento Red and White editions are offered with the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (110PS/175Nm) seen on the variants they are based on. Until now, the Polo Highline Plus and Vento Highline variants were offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, with the introduction of the special editions, Volkswagen has brought in AT-equipped Highline Plus and Highline variants of the Polo and Vento respectively.
Even though the Polo gets a more affordable AT-equipped variant, it is still pricier than its competitors including the Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza, Tata Altroz, and Honda Jazz. The Vento automatic, however, is more affordable than the automatic variants of the fifth-gen Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Volkswagen retails the Polo between Rs 5.87 lakh and Rs 9.67 lakh, while the Vento is priced from Rs 8.93 lakh to Rs 13.39 lakh (ex-showroom).
