While both SUVs offer more than 400 litres of boot space, it’s not as straightforward on the 3-row Safari as it is on the Harrier
Both the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari have just been given their first major makeover. With the facelift, the flagship SUV pair has gotten big styling changes, a fresh cabin, and a bucketload of features.
As big as these SUVs are, you would expect them to offer large storage spaces for all passengers too. Well, on paper, at least, the Harrier has 445 litres of boot space while the Safari’s boot space stands at 420 litres (with the third row folded down). But how do these numbers translate in the real-world? That’s what we decided to find out:

In the Harrier, we could stuff in 3 trolley bags, 2 laptop bags, and 1 duffle bag with all seats in use. On the other hand, the Safari – with its third row in use – can only accommodate a laptop bag and a duffle bag, giving you almost negligible amount of space. That said, fold down the last row of seats (50:50 split), and the 3-row SUV can also swallow as much as its 5-seater sibling. If you still need more space in your Harrier, folding down the second row takes the usable storage area up to 815 litres, while it goes even further in the Safari, at 827 litres.
New Tata Harrier & Safari Details
Tata has equipped both the SUVs with the same 2-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) as their pre-facelift versions. Both can be had with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The two SUVs get loads of new features as well, such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone AC, and multi-colour ambient lighting. In terms of safety, the Harrier-Safari duo gets 7 airbags (6 are available as standard), ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Rivals
We expect the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari facelifts to be priced at a premium of up to a lakh over their current iterations. The Harrier will renew its competition with the MG Hector and Mahindra XUV700 as well as the higher-spec variants of the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. On the other hand, the Safari will continue to be a 3-row rival to the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar.
