Several of the automotive manufacturers are now downsizing their engines, and the diesel turbos have already been a hit as not only it is cheaper to buy, but more efficient too. Recently, the trend has moved towards petrol engines. Turbocharged petrol engines are coming in. Volkswagen was the first to introduce a turbocharged on its 1.8-litre mill, then came Fiat in 2010 with the T-Jet.

This year we have already witness the 1.2-litre TSI and 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines. The issue of power is well taken care and they do not feel anything like small engines, when it comes to performance. Due to smaller engine capacity, the fuel efficiency will also be better. Now, with the deregulation of the diesel price there has been a rise in the cost and on the other hand petrol has got cheaper. So, the trend is now moving towards the turbo petrol and we expect more manufacturers to get more such engines and powerful hatchbacks.

Toyota introduced the Etios Liva TRD, Volkswagen got the Polo GT TSI and soon Fiat will be getting the Abarth Punto that will also have the 1.4-litre turbo petrol. Will you buy a hot hatch, do write to us.
