It’s a first from the American manufacturer; Chevrolet Enjoy aims to break the traditional shackles of the Tavera thereby giving Indian consumers something different, which is more enjoyable in the MPV segment.
Chevrolet Enjoy Exteriors
Competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova, Chevrolet Enjoy attempts to catch the imagination of the aspiring middle class. This is true in regards to its design which breaks away from its traditional MUV - the Tavera.
In sheer design, Chevrolet Enjoy features an upright nose, which provides a chrome highlighted grille with a bowtie logo sitting right in the centre of it. Rest pulled back headlamps, leaf style fog lamps and a mesh air damp with chrome surrounds form an integral part of the front profile.
Its V-shaped bonnet further accentuates the aggressive attributes of this MPV. Coming to the sides, there is a sharp line that arises from the front bumper going all the way up till the rear. Besides this, there are body coloured door handles, flared wheel arches and 14 inch alloys that provide Chevrolet Enjoy a charming look. The rear meanwhile caters to an up kept tailgate featuring crystal clear tail lamps and a rear spoiler which comprises of a high mounted stop lamp.
Chevrolet Enjoy Interiors
Having experienced its exteriors, the interiors are somewhat average. No doubt that the dual tone interiors give Enjoy an updated look in comparison to rest of its competition. The front dash is a bit of a letdown due to its poor quality plastics, fittings and finish. Centre console with its jutting out frame was not to our liking, so was the case with the air conditioning controls and music system buttons, which felt pretty sub standard when put into use. Appearance of the three spoke steering is very ordinary but when it comes to feel factor, it is comfortable to hold and manoeuvre which is good thing for those long drives. The triple cluster silver surround instrument panel looks good especially with its blue illumination that is successful in grabbing the eye along with a single din music system, which has a similar outlook. Besides these elements, the cabin provides ample of storage space in the form of cup holders which can be found both below the centre console as well as in the door pockets. In relation to seating, Chevrolet Enjoy provides three rows of seats out of which the front and middle row cater to buckets seats while the last row is a single unit .Sit in any row, the level of comfort remains the same throughout which is a good news for people who like to travel long distances especially with an extended family. As for safety, the Enjoy features dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors.
Chevrolet Enjoy Engine
Interiors and comfort are an integral part of any vehicle, but so is the heart that breathes underneath the hood. Thus in the case of the Enjoy, Chevrolet is currently offering a 1.4 litre petrol engine along with 1.3 litre diesel unit. We for this instance drove the diesel variant that featured a 1248cc, 4 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine capable of producing a maximum power output of 76.4bhp with 188Nm of torque. Be it within the city or on the open highway, Enjoy with its rear wheel drive makes an immediate impact with its perfect ride and handling characteristics. However the one aspect that does affect the cabin experience is the engine noise which tends to sneak in when being driven at a higher RPM.
Its 5-speed manual transmission is fairly decent to use despite a play in the gear stick, which takes some time getting used to. The biggest USP of this power plant is its mileage (18.2 kmpl) and flawless power delivery. Going over broken roads and uneven surfaces aren’t really an issue for this MPV due to its brilliant suspension setup, which comprises of McPherson Struts in the front while the rear provides Multi Link Coil Spring. In the case of its brakes, the combination of discs in the front and drum at rear make Chevrolet Enjoy more than capable to handle any sort of an emergency situation.
Verdict
With an entirely new product in Chevrolet’s model line up, Enjoy is a welcome change for those who are on the look for a good looking MPV. It boosts of comfort, performance and efficiency, which is precisely one of the major driving forces in a segment like this one.
