Tata Nexon EV LR: Long Term Review — Second Report

Published On Aug 22, 2024 By Arun for Tata Nexon EV

Over 4500km added in a little more than two months, the Nexon EV continues to impress

Tata Nexon EV LR: Long Term Review

Since the last report, the Nexon EV has been subjected to multiple Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai runs. This is over and above the usual ~30km/day grind it goes through without a hiccup. There’s some positive news and a little something that raises an eyebrow. Read on.

Driven To 0% — OVER AND OVER AGAIN!

We’ve drained the Nexon EV to 0% multiple times now. In extremely hot conditions (with ambient temperatures soaring to 41°c) we could manage ~285km of range. With the monsoon setting in and cooler temperatures, we saw an improvement in range practically immediately with ~299km of range on a full charge. Bear in mind that both these runs included two hill climbs each. On flat city surfaces, there’s no doubt that the Nexon EV can breach the 300km mark when it isn’t melting hot outside.

Curiosity got the better of us where we decided to test whether a full passenger plus luggage load would make a difference to the Nexon’s real world range. The difference was approximately 28km, between a Nexon EV driven solo and one with four occupants and ~40kg of luggage in the boot. We also noticed that the gulf between these two Nexons was widest when we drove on inclines. Inside the city and on flat highways, this difference in range is expected to be under 20km at best.

The Good News

Tata Nexon EV Infotainment

Ever since Tata Motors has updated the software on the Nexon EV, the random bugs seem to have disappeared. The touchscreen does not randomly crash, the instrument cluster does not hang and the experience is generally much smoother. Yes, Apple CarPlay does disconnect automatically once in a blue moon, but other than that — there’s not much to complain about.

Raise An Eyebrow

Now that the monsoons are here, we’re getting our windows fogged up. The defroster on the vehicle struggles to clear the vehicle’s windscreen. On a similar note, if you feel chilly and turn up the temperature, there’s very little ‘heating’ that the Nexon EV provides. Whether this is an issue specific to our test car or in general, remains to be seen.

It’s quite easy to grow fond of something like the Nexon EV. It continues to turn heads, is supremely comfortable over Mumbai’s non-existent roads and has just the right amount of feel good features. The cherry on the cake is that it’s hilariously cheap to run. Costing just about Rs 2/km (since we’re dependent on public fast chargers) — its 4500km journey so far, has costed under Rs 9000. Money in the bank is always a good feeling!

Positives: Dependable 300km range, extensive feature list

Negatives: Inadequate heating

Date When Received: 23rd April 2024

Kilometres When Received: 3300km

Kilometres Till Now: 7800km
