What is the latest update on the Land Rover Defender?

Land Rover India had recently launched the MY 2025 Defender from Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom). While cosmetic updates are minimal, the 2025 Defender gets feature additions.

The Land Rover Defender price starts from Rs 1.25 crore for the base Diesel 90 X-Dynamic HSE three-door variant and goes all the way up to Rs 1.64 crore (both prices, ex-showroom) for the top-end V8 Petrol 130 X extended five-door version. 

Land Rover Defender variants in India

Land Rover offers the Defender in three body styles: 90 (three-door), 110 (five-door) and 130 (extended five-door). You can purchase it in three variants: X-Dynamic HSE, Sedona Edition (limited to Defender 110) and X. 

Land Rover Defender dimensions

The Land Rover Defender’s length and wheelbase differ depending on the body style you opt for. It measures from 4583 mm to 5358 mm in length (with spare wheel), 2105 mm in width (with the ORVMs open) and 1,970 mm height. The wheelbase of the vehicle measures from 2587 mm to 3022 mm depending on the variant you pick. 

In terms of design, the Land Rover Defender boasts a macho design that’s sure to turn heads. It gets plenty of modern day design elements such as modern LED lighting and chunky alloy wheels. Land Rover has also implemented design touches from older versions of the model such as the Alpine windows on the roof.

The Land Rover Defender comes with all the features you would expect from a car at this price point. Highlights include an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, a Meridian sound system, powered front seats with heating functionality, an electrically adjustable steering column, wireless phone charger, automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers. 

Land Rover Defender engine and transmission options

In India, the Land Rover Defender is offered with four engine options:

• 2-litre turbo-petrol: This is the smallest engine offered in the Defender lineup and is limited to the 110 5-door version. It puts out 300 PS and drives all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine offers sufficient power for daily usage and on the highway. 
• 2-litre plug-in hybrid: If you want an eco-friendly Defender, then this is the engine you should pick. Once again, this powertrain is limited to the 110 5-door version and is exclusively available with the Sedona Edition only. This engine puts out 404 PS and 640 Nm combined, paired with four-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. 
• 3-litre diesel: This is the engine for those who want a blend of punch and fuel efficiency from the Defender. Available in all versions of the Defender, it puts out 349 PS and gets four-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. 
• 5-litre V8 petrol: If you’re someone who’s looking for performance, this is the one you need to look at. This engine is offered in two states of tune: 425 PS and 525 PS. Like all versions, it comes with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. 

Land Rover Defender safety

The Land Rover Defender comes with all the safety features expected from a car at this price point such as multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors with 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake with auto hold and some ADAS features.

It must be noted that the Land Rover Defender secured a full 5 star safety rating when it was tested by Euro NCAP back in December 2020. 

Land Rover Defender colour options

The Land Rover Defender is offered in 9 colour options: Fuji White, Pangea Green, Tasman Blue, Gondwana Stone, Santorini Black, Carpathini Grey, Charente Grey, Petra Copper and Sedona Red. Do note that certain of these colours are limited to specific variants of the Land Rover Defender. 

We particularly like - 

• Pangea Green - suits the vehicle and its off-road characteristics well. 

• Santorini Black - pick this if you want your Defender to exude a stealth attitude. 

What are the special editions offered with the Land Rover Defender?

Recently, Land Rover introduced the Defender Sedona Edition, which is based on the 110 5-door body style. It gets a striking Deep Red colour resembling the vibrant rock colour found in Sedona, Arizona. Contrasting black elements add to the sporty look of this model.

Yes. The Land Rover Defender should be on your consideration list if you want a luxury vehicle that can comfortably ferry people which is capable not only on tarmac, but off-road as well. It offers the perfect blend of road presence courtesy of its bragging design, luxurious interiors and some serious off-road ability.  

What are alternatives of Land Rover Defender to consider?

The Land Rover Defender has a service interval of either 16,000 km or once in a year. It has a standard warranty of 5 years / 1.5 lakh km, whichever comes first.
