The Peugeot family originally belongs to Valentigney, Montbeliard, Franche-Comte, France Peugeot forayed into the production business back in the 18th century. Peugeot initially manufactured bicycles and in 1890 the company stepped into manufacturing cars. Peugeot became a pioneer by fitting rubber tires in petrol cars. In 1896, Peugeot started building its own engines and was no longer dependent on Daimler for the engines. In 1896, Armand Peugeot formulated his own company Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot and opened a new plant at Audincourt, dedicated only for the manufacturing of cars. Peugeot built another facility in 1907 based in Sochaux which turned out to be an essential plant by 1928.
Peugeot, part of the PSA Group, is a French automaker. The company started off as a family business that manufactured bicycles and coffee mills. It built its first automobile in 1889 - a steam tricycle. The company came to limelight after World War II and managed to build a reputation of developing beautiful and well-built cars. It also has a rich motorsport heritage and has won five World Rally Championships, seven Dakar Rally races, and three 24 Hours of Le Mans events. In the passenger vehicle segment, Peugeot currently has a diverse international portfolio, ranging from small hatchbacks to large people carriers. In India, the company has entered into a contract with the CK Birla Group to use the latter's manufacturing facility, which was formerly used to develop the Hindustan Motors Ambassador. The first cars from Peugeot India are expected to roll out by the end of 2019.The Peugeot brand has decided to add to a prospective buyer’s choices by entering the Indian market.
