Unlike other global auto shows our sole international level auto show is held at every 2 year interval. So manufacturers here have plenty of time to launch new products in this two year’s span. Speaking in context with our last show, 2014 Indian Auto show, it brought plenty of surprises to our shore and as we are approaching towards mid 2015, few launches are still awaited while most of them are already on sale.
Now, back to this article, planning to get yourself a car this year, you should lookout for these offering before finalizing on it! Coz’ cars in India are a long time affair for fairly large percent of us and making a right decision is important. Let’s see some prominent decision changing launches planned this year.
Hatchbacks
Four major launches will happen this year in the hatchback segment, two of them are already confirmed from Ford and Honda while rest two are highly expected from Maruti and Renault this year. I’m talking about the new Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki’s Elite i20 assassin - codenamed YRA, Honda Jazz’s revival and the Renault’s entry level global XBA (codenamed) hatch’s launch. All these four cars rest in their individual segment, Figo rivals with Swift and Grand i10; YRA, which will sit above Swift, competes with Elite i20, Polo and Punto EVO and this upcoming Jazz.
The new Ford Figo is an entirely different territory, it will be fulfilling all the compromises that Ford India made with the first generation Figo - whether it comes to engines or features and adds more bling along with new safety add ons like multiple airbags. Renault’s XBA (codenamed) will be a global car and will probably make its world debut in India. XBA would compete in the entry level category, majorly with the Alto K10.
About the YRA - concluding infos from various spy shots along with its concept version that Suzuki debuted at Geneva Motor Show’15 - it will be heavily loaded! From multiple airbags to touch screen central unit. It will also debut Suzuki’s new 1.0-liter turbocharged ‘BoosterJet’ petrol engine in India. Speaking of the Jazz , Honda will not mess with the pricing this time and they are adding a diesel option too - it will be a perfect package and is expected to be as popular like the new City!
SUVs
It will be raining SUVs cats and dogs this year, lot of off roaders are coming to India and trust us they will definitely set new standards in the segment. Starting with the compact SUVs - Hyundai will be blowing us with the ix25 in August, Mahindra is likely to launch its S101 compact SUV this year. While according to the recent rumours, Maruti Suzuki which might be launching its debutant sub-4m SUV this year will name it Vitara Brezza. Apart from these compact SUVs, we will see decade old Ford Endeavour replacement this year along with the Freelander 2 replacement - Discovery Sport.
Starting with the Mahindra, S101 is their very anticipated product and is the second monocoque construction in its clan. Moreover, it is also likely to debut Mahindra’s new petrol engine with it. Coming on to Hyundai ix25 , it will get the usual Hyundai treatment - lots of segment first features, potent engines and an all-rounder package.
About the Vitara Brezza , it’s still a mystery, particularly a rumour when it comes to the name but the product is definitely coming. Speaking of the new Ford Endeavour , Ford India has already started testing it in the country. The new Endeavour will redefine the premium SUV segment in the country with its segment first 5-cylinder engine and terrain management system.
Moving up the ladder, Discovery Sport will replace the slow selling Freelander and will put the Landy in position to compete well in the segment which features Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.
Sedans
There’s not much happening in the world of sedans in the country. This said, the biggest launch will be the Ford Figo Aspire - American automaker’s entry into the compact sedan arena. The vehicle was unveiled a couple of days back and is coming to re-define this with features such as six-airbags, voice guided smartphone integrated Ford’s SYNC infotainment system while the modern EcoSport’s 6-speed dual clutch automatic is also expected in it!
Apart from the Aspire, another blockbuster can be expected from Toyota - Vios . It is a mid-size sedan which will compete majorly with Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The Japanese automaker was absent in this segment for long and ventured with Etios in the entry-level sedan space but sub-4m sedans isn’t very fruitful in the mass market segment, save the taxi space!
