Honda Amaze 2nd Gen

• The second-generation Honda Amaze now looks a little old. However, the simple design is still quite pleasing to look at.

• Projector LED headlamps, turn indicators on the mirrors, chrome door handles and LED elements in the tail lamps — even the older Amaze gets all that modern small sedans have.

• I like the design of the 15-inch alloy wheels of the VX model. The lower model gets 14-inch steel wheels and wheel caps.

• Honda continues to offer some interesting exterior accessories which can be opted to customize the car.

• In 2025, the design of the dashboard might look basic. However, the beige-black-silver colour combination, quality of materials, and the fit-and-finish make it look premium.

• For a small car, storage options are adequate: large bottle holders in the doors, twin central cupholders, a decent glovebox and some space under the handbrake. Rear occupants get seat back pockets and bottle holders in the door.

• The front seats are soft, which can cause discomfort over long journeys. Support is adequate for those with an average build, oversized individuals might not be as comfortable here.

• By compact sedan standards, rear seat space is acceptable for adults up to 5’10”. I missed having adjustable headrests at the rear. Also, the lack of width means the Amaze is best used as a four seater.

Standard safety kit of the Amaze includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and rear parking sensors.

• The 420-litre boot space of the Honda Amaze is wide and deep. You can easily store large suitcases here if required. 

• You cannot fold the rear seats in case you want to carry more luggage. 

1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine

• I like the smoothness and silence of Honda’s four-cylinder engine. It is simply the best in class in this aspect. 

• Do not expect a peppy performance. The Amaze is better suited to a relaxed driving style. 

• Inside the city, you will have to shuffle between first and second gear often.

• Consider the CVT if in-city usage is extremely high and you want the convenience. 

• I found the Amaze to be underpowered for highway use. Overtakes require planning and it struggles on inclines, especially with a full passenger load. 

• You can expect an efficiency of around 14-16kmpl in the city and 18-20kmpl on the highway.

• I like the ride quality of the Amaze, especially at lower speeds. It cushions impacts and doesn’t cause any discomfort.

• At highway speeds, you feel some vertical movement in the cabin, especially at the rear. 

• The light steering makes parking and in-city driving very easy. It weighs up adequately on the highways. 

Which variant of Honda Amaze Second Generation is value for money?

• We’d recommend the VX variant since it offers all the essentials one expects from a vehicle. 

• Consider the lower S model ONLY if you’re on an absolutely strict budget.

Is the Honda Amaze 2nd Generation right for you?

If you don’t mind the slightly dated looks inside-out, you can consider the old Amaze for its practicality, space and comfort. It is also one of the few vehicles that offers a four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT automatic under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). If you want better tech and looks, you can consider the new Amaze or the Dzire.
