Key Takeaways

Maruti Swift

  • Maruti Swift maintained its lead by being the top-selling car in India for August 2023, with 18,653 units sold. The hatchback has registered a positive growth in both month-on-month (MoM) and year-on-year (YoY) sales.

Maruti Baleno

  • Maruti Baleno is the only other model to cross 18,000 units in sales this past month, securing the second spot, closely trailing the Swift and showcasing consistent demand in the market with MoM growth.

  • The Maruti Wagon R enjoyed a strong MoM growth with 15,578 units sold, even though its YoY sales went down by 15 percent. It’s still one of the top-selling Maruti cars in the list.

Maruti Brezza

  • The Maruti Brezza emerged as the fourth best-selling model in the list and the highest selling SUV for August 2023, with more than 14,500 units sold. However, the subcompact SUV has faced decline in sales compared to previous month and year.

Tata Punch

  • Tata Punch also enjoyed a strong MoM growth and was barely 50 units behind the Brezza in monthly sales. It takes the fourth spot in the sales table, surpassing its sales performance from the previous year, seemingly unaffected by the entry of the Hyundai Exter.

Hyundai Creta

  • At sixth in this list, the Hyundai Creta  outperforms all the  segment rivals with 13,832 units sold. Also, Hyundai Creta's August 2023 sales were 2,000 units higher than that of the Maruti Grand Vitara. This also shows Hyundai's strong foothold in the compact SUV segment.

  • With over 13,000 units sold, Maruti Dzire comes at seventh position and continues to be the only sedan in the country to enjoy such demand.

  • With a noticeable rise in MoM sales, the Maruti Ertiga was the eighth best-selling model in August 2023. Now, you can also buy the MPV with a different badge and front fascia in the form of the Toyota Rumion.

Maruti Fronx

  • The Maruti Fronx enjoyed a strong demand, with over 12,000 models sold in August 2023. However, its MoM sales went down by 8 percent.

  • The Maruti Eeco had a consistent sales performance, remaining a popular choice in the market. Close to 12,000 units of the Maruti van were sold in August 2023.

  • Though Maruti Grand Vitara's sales in August 2023 were lower than its brand peers, it has registered a positive MoM sales growth of 30 percent. It was edged out of the top 10, by a margin of just 41 units, by the Eeco.

Hyundai Venue

  • Hyundai Venue maintained its sales with slight fluctuations but remained competitive within its segment. The subcompact SUV’s feature list and transmission options have been updated recently, making it the first in its segment to offer ADAS. Click here to know more about it.

Kia Seltos

  • The Kia Seltos had consistent sales, performing well in its category compared to the previous month. Since the Seltos has recently received a facelift, we expect that its sales will be boosted in the coming months.

  • The second-last model in this list, the Mahindra Scorpio, crossed the sales of 9,500 units in August  2023, with a dip of almost 6 percent compared to July 2023. Please note that these numbers include the sales of both Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic SUVs.

  • The Maruti Alto K10 faced a significant drop in sales compared to the previous year. However, its MoM sales went up by over 2,500 units.

2023 Tata Nexon

  • The Tata Nexon, which is usually a high-selling SUV, saw a much lower demand than usual at just above 8,000 units sold. This could be because of the fact that the facelifted Nexon is due to arrive on September 14. Again, these figures include the sales of the regular Nexon as well as the Nexon EVs.
