The biennial Indian Auto Expo has been shifted in venue and date after SIAM held a meeting in this regard. The venue has been shifted from the traditional Pragati Maidan to Great Noida due to its unavailability on the selected dates. The reason behind shifting the date of the event is due to its clash with the Detroit Auto Show. Traditionally the Indian Auto Expo starts in the first week of January; this year however, the Auto Expo will start on the 6th of February until the 12th of February, 2014.
"In the next Auto Expo, which will be held from February 6-12, we will be showing only vehicles and accessories at the India Expo Centre and Mart at Greater Noida," stated SIAM Director General Vishnu Mathur. He also added: "Lot of global CEOs who wanted to be here have said to us that they could not because of their engagement with the Detroit Auto Show. So we decided to shift our Auto Expo to February". On the topic of moving out from Pragati Maidan, Mathur said: "In February 2014, it is not available and hence we had to move to Greater Noida".
SIAM has also made arrangements for an increase in the amount of space after being severely criticised for crowd and event mismanagement at the 2012 Auto Expo. SIAM Deputy Director General Sugato Sen addressed those concerns, saying, “We will have 50,000 square metres of occupied space by exhibitors as compared to less than 40,000 square metre that we had this year's Auto Expo."
