Since Q7's inception in the mid 20's, the design hasn't changed much despite of few facelifts. When it was introduced, the SUV echoed previous generations of A6's and A8's. What we see today, A6 and A8 feature an edgier design contrary to Q7's curvy silhouette. But everything is about to change, the company is all set to launch nex-gen Audi Q7. It might make its world debut at the 2015 Paris Motor Show.
While the SUV is likely to hit the road in 2015 globally, expect it to enter India soon after. As of now in India, the company is producing the current Q7 through CKD route. Recently, in Audi's 125th Annual General Meeting, the company announced that they will introduce 17 new models by 2014, it seems like Q7 is certainly heading this list!
On the design front, the new Q7 got shaper with the front getting cues from the recently updated A7s and TTs. The headlight gets a sharper profile too, instead of curvy in the on-going version. The day-time-running LEDs mimics the ones in the new A7. The grille and bumper receives heavy alteration sporting large air diffusers. The side profile reminds of the current Q7 but it gets subtle changes. What we figured out from the heavily camouflaged test mule is that the wheel arches seems to be lil diluted giving a streamlined appearance. At the rear, the first thing you will notice is the quad exhaust muffler from the pictures. Just like the headlights, the taillamps of the new Q7 are also tailored in a rectangular look.
Apart from the exteriors, the nex-gen Audi Q7 will receive radical improvements under the body! If rumors are to be believed, the upcoming SUV will shed weight nearly in the range of 300-400kg! The VW's versatile MLB platform is expected to do duty under the SUV. The advance aluminum chassis construction is responsible for the weight reduction. Speaking of the interiors, the SUV will feature entirely new layout. The company's future dash layouts were seen first on the new Audi TT and A3. Expect the design to be simple and elegant with retro styled circular AV vents and large touch screen popping out from inside.
Mechanically, the new Q7 will receive upgraded engines. In India, the company sells Q7 only with TDI diesel motors and we expect the same for the upcoming SUV. The current 3.0 liter V6 TDI producing 241bhp will be uprated to generate power in excess of 270bhp while torque will go from 550Nm to nearly 600Nm. The top of the line 4.2 liter V8 TDI will also receive power upgradations.
