GM says it’s lighter by 113 kilos and stiffer by 27 % compared to the current Cruze and will go on sale in US early next year, it is most likely our Cruze’s replacement!
Chevrolet has introduced the second generation Cruze, GM retails it in more than 40 countries and this 2016 sedan will go first on sale in North America starting early next year. Apart from an entirely new design and platform, Cruze packs best in class features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with new diesel and turbo petrol engines.
Speaking of the design, the second generation Cruze looks nothing like the current sedan. Chevrolet says that “With styling influenced by the acclaimed 2014 Impala and all new Malibu, the 2016 Cruze brings Chevrolet’s new, expressive global design language to the small car segment.” However, the 2016 sedan has shed all the muscular looks of the current Cruze but it surely looks flamboyant than ever.
It features a swept back headlights which now comes with LED projector headlamps and LED daytime-running lights. It rides on 15-to-18-inch alloys. Moreover, the vehicle has grown in size, it’s 68 mm longer and now comes with segment-best 2700 mm of wheelbase. The overall height has been reduced by 25 mm, giving it a longer and leaner appearance.
Mechanically, it will be powered by a new 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine which musters 153 horses and 240 Nm of max twist. Chevrolet is claiming naught to 100 kmph in nearly 8 seconds! And with the low 0.29 coefficient of drag, GM promises an estimated fuel efficiency of 40 mpg (approximately 17 kmpl) on highways. However, there is no info on diesel engine as of now, but it is a new engine and reportedly displaces 1.6-liters compared to current car's 2.0-liter oil burner.
Interiors are brand new and looks similar to that of the China-exclusive version of the Cruze. GM says that it gets a standard 7-inch MyLink infotainment touchscreen while 8-inch touchscreen is optional. The infotainment system also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, the instrumentation cluster offers a 4.2-inch-diagonal high-resolution driver information center.
