It's the American brute against the burly new Mahindra. Which one reigns supreme?
Ford’s flagship SUV in India, the Endeavour, has received some minor updates to take on newer rivals, one of them the Mahindra Alturas G4. So, which of these cars come across as a better offering? We let the pictures answer it for you.
Front
Width: 1869mm |
Width: 1960mm(+91mm) |
The new Endeavour isn’t small from any angle but the Alturas is on a whole level altogether and comes across as much 91mm wider than the American. That said, both the SUVs can play bully easily on Indian roads. |
Side
Length: 4903mm(+53mm) Wheelbase: 2850mm |
Length: 4850mm Wheelbase: 2865mm(+15mm) |
While the Endeavour is longer, the Alturas has a bigger wheelbase. From the side profile, both the brutes look boxy but the rear quarter glass on the Endeavour is bigger, which will make the cabin a bit airier for rear passengers. |
Rear
Height: 1837mm |
1845(+8mm) |
The Ford Endeavour’s rear end is boxier and gets wraparound LED tail lamps. |
It’s the Mahindra that has a funkier rear end with its chrome strip and sleeker LED taillamps. |
Wheels
The Endeavour receives 18-inch alloy wheels shod with fatter 265/60 tyres. Frankly, its design looks better than the Mahindra. |
Interiors
While both the cars have a premium aura about their interiors, the Endeavour might feel a bit airier to some due to the liberal use of lighter beige and black shade in the cabin. But if it’s proper old-school luxury you are looking at, it’s definitely felt in the Alturas G4 more than in the Endeavour. |
Infotainment
Both the 2019 Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4 get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Where the Ford gets semi-parallel parking assist, the Mahindra gets a 360-degree parking camera. |
Instrument Cluster
The Endeavour gets an analogue speedometer in the centre which is flanked by two digital screens for displaying the car’s vital stats. |
The Alturas G4 gets a 7-inch TFT LCD instrument console with a 3-mode computer to change the display. |
Sunroof
The Ford Endeavour gets a bigger panoramic sunroof whereas the Alturas G4 gets a smaller glass area on the roof. |
Front Seats
Ford provides an 8-way power adjustable seat to both the driver and co-passenger. The Ford Endeavour misses out on ventilated seats and memory function, which are available on its competitor. |
Mahindra Alturas G4 gets an 8-way power adjustable driver seat with memory function. Moreover, the top-spec Alturas G4 power slides whenever you switch on the car to free up space for the driver to enter the car. |
Rear Seats
Second row in the Ford Endeavour gets adjustable headrests including for the middle-passenger. The Endeavour misses out on a full tumble function which makes it a little difficult to access the third row. |
Alturas G4 also gets adjustable headrests which can also be tumbled forward for easy access to the third row. The only issue is that the third row isn’t very usable. |
Safety
The Ford Endeavour gets seven airbags on its top Titanium+ variant. |
The Mahindra Alturas G4 gets nine airbags on the top 4X4 variant. |
Engines
Ford Endeavour gets two sets of diesel engines: 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre which produce 160PS/385Nm and 200PS/470Nm, respectively. |
The Alturas G4 is powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel which churns out 182PS of power and 420Nm of torque. |
Transmission
Endeavour is available with a choice of a 6-speed manual and auto transmission with its 2.2-litre engine whereas the 3.2-litre only gets a 6-speed AT. |
The transmission on the Alturas is a 7-speed automatic from Mercedes-Benz. |
