Is the top choice for the petrol-CVT or iMT variant worth the premium?

Hyundai recently launched the third-gen i20 in India which takes the premium hatchback segment a step ahead with its stunning design, refined powertrain options, and premium features. Pricing for the new-gen i20 ranges between Rs 6.80 lakh and Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Asta variant is one below the top-spec and the only one with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option for the turbo-petrol engine. Do the feature updates make it a value-for-money but highly specced i20? We find out.

Let’s start by looking at the engine options available with the Asta variant of the new i20:

Engine

1.2-litre petrol

1.0-litre turbo-petrol

Max Power

Verdict

The Asta variant of the new i20 offers a feature-rich premium hatchback experience at this price. It is also the best option with the 1.2-litre petrol-CVT or the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol iMT powertrains. Hyundai is not offering the diesel engine with this variant. Instead, the Asta introduces the dual-clutch automatic transmission for the turbo-petrol engine. However, if you are willing to pay the premium for the DCT automatic, we’d suggest you skip this variant.

The fact that it still doesn’t come with ISOFIX child seat anchorage takes some of the shine away from the premium features it’s packed with.
