Should you stretch your hatchback budget for the top-spec i20?
The third-gen Hyundai i20 has been launched in India from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It comes with a stunning design inside and out, various petrol powertrains, and more premium features than before. Verdict
The Asta(O) variant charges a premium of around Rs 50,000 over the previous variant and offers a slightly different set of powertrains. While the sunroof is a popular cosmetic upgrade and partly responsible for the extra cost, the Asta(O) should be considered for the added safety it offers by way of the four additional airbags, stability control, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage. It is also our recommended variant for the turbo-petrol DCT powertrain and your top-spec option for the diesel engine.

However, it is worth noting that the most expensive premium hatchback on offer is still missing a few premium features. In our opinion, the Asta(O) should have included 60:40 split-folding rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, and an auto-dimming inside rear view mirror for the same price. If we could have asked for a feature from one-segment above, it would be Hyundai’s ventilated front seats which are quite handy in the Indian summers.
