Does this mid-spec variant meet all your basic needs from a premium hatchback?
The latest generation of the Hyundai i20 was recently launched in India with new engines and even more premium features than before. At prices ranging from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it is now one of the most expensive premium hatchbacks in the market. The mid-spec Sportz variant is the entry-point for the turbo-petrol engine option which is offered with the segment-first clutchless manual transmission (iMT). But is it worth the premium over the entry-spec Magna variant with the other powertrain options? We find out.

Verdict
The Sportz variant of the new i20 attracts a premium of nearly a lakh over the previous Magna variant and does begin to look premium at this point with larger wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system. If you’re on a strict budget, we’d recommend going for the Magna-spec and fitting it with accessories afterwards. But if you want an automatic variant of the new i20, the Sportz is really the entry-level option for you and a worthwhile choice.

Between the 1.2-litre petrol CVT and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with the clutchless manual, we’d recommend the latter. While the CVT is better suited for the city, the more powerful turbo variant performs better on the highway.
