While Mahindra was expected to launch the new-gen models of the XUV500, Scorpio, and Thar in 2020, the first two never saw the light of day thanks to the pandemic. They have been spied on numerous occasions and are expected to arrive sometime in early-2021. Now, another spy shot of the next-gen XUV500 has surfaced online that reveals its Mercedes-Benz-like connected touchscreens. This is the clearest glimpse yet of the XUV500’s new screens.
From the spy shot, one can clearly make out two integrated digital displays: the touchscreen infotainment system and the instrument cluster. By the looks of it, the infotainment system seems to be bigger than 10 inches while the instrument panel appears a bit smaller in comparison. On closer inspection, you can see the gear position indicator on the extreme right and the speedometer on the left of the instrument display. Other features on offer could include wireless charging, connected car tech, and level-1 autonomous driver assistance technology.
The next-gen XUV500 could come with a set of 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, both of which are offered with the second-gen Thar as well. Having said that, they will be tuned to produce more power and torque given the SUV’s size and price. Mahindra is expected to offer the new-gen XUV500 with both manual and automatic transmissions and an AWD (all-wheel-drive) drivetrain, as offered on the current-gen model until a while ago.
The new-gen XUV500 is expected to be priced from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to compete with the Jeep Compass, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, and the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. We expect Mahindra to launch the SUV in early-2021.
