The list ranges from compact SUVs to flagship EV offerings, many of which are likely to hit our market soon
Although 2022 is almost nearing its completion, there’s still a lot of action left to take place in the Indian automotive industry. This comprises many new unveilings and launches, including some SUVs which are likely headed our way soon.
Here’s a look at five SUVs, which will break cover before the year comes to an end:
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep is gearing up to launch the fifth-gen Grand Cherokee in India on November 11. It will be locally assembled at the carmaker’s Ranjangaon facility and will be its flagship offering in India. It is expected to be priced from Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom). The Grand Cherokee will be an epitome of plushness as it is equipped with upmarket features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen system, digital driver’s display, head-up display, and 19-speaker McIntosh music system.
The India-spec Grand Cherokee will be powered by a 2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automated transmission, sending power to all four wheels. It will also receive Jeep's Selec-Terrain management technology to handle various road conditions.
Mercedes-Benz EQB
The EQB is Mercedes-Benz’s third all-electric SUV and is the electrified version of the GLB. It can seat up to seven people and has a plethora of tech-supported features on board including the MBUX Hyperscreen.
Mercedes-Benz has provided it with a 66.5kWh battery pack, having a WLTP-claimed range of up to 419km. The electric SUV gets an all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) along with a dual-motor setup. It supports up to 100kW fast charging, which is capable of juicing its battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.

2022 MG Hector
As seen in a couple of teasers released by MG Motor India, its mid-size SUV, the Hector, is set to get its first major mid-life update soon. This time, the SUV will feature a much larger front grille with chrome studs and sleeker LED DRLs. Inside, the biggest update will be the larger vertically stacked 14-inch touchscreen infotainment setup. With the facelift, the Hector will also come with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The SUV will continue to be offered with both petrol and diesel engines as the existing model with their respective transmission options. It will be priced slightly higher than the existing Hector, which will continue to be on sale alongside the new model.
New Mercedes-Benz GLB
The GLB was unveiled back in 2019 as Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level SUV to feature a seating capacity of up to seven occupants. It slots between the GLA and GLC in the carmaker’s global lineup. It is a rival to the likes of the Volvo XC40 and is bigger in almost all dimensions except the width. Globally, the GLB gets both petrol and diesel powertrains along with Mercedes-Benz’s famous 4MATIC all-wheel-drivetrain (AWD) setup.

New Honda WR-V
Honda has just revealed the new-gen WR-V in Indonesia, which is a completely new model from the ground up, unlike the previous WR-V that was based on the Jazz. It is the production version of the Honda RS concept, which was showcased in 2021, and has grown in size in all departments (save for the wheelbase) compared to the India-spec WR-V. It is being offered with the City’s 121PS, 1.5-litre petrol engine with a CVT automatic as standard.
Inside, it’s a familiar affair as its cabin layout is shared with the Amaze. Honda has opted for an all-black cabin theme and leather upholstery for the SUV. Common features between the two include a seven-inch touchscreen, cruise control, and auto climate control. It has also been equipped with Honda Sensing technology, which is the carmaker’s suite of ADAS features. We believe Honda might bring the WR-V to India in 2023 by working out the length of the SUV (to suit the sub-4m criterion).
