Mercedes has revealed its eighth electric model, the EQE SUV. It is essentially the SUV version of the EQE saloon and the electric alternative to the GLE, joining the EQA, EQB, EQC, and EQS electric SUVs.

The regular EQE SUV is offered with three powertrains with the option of two drivetrains, but the same 90.6kWh battery with each. The WLTP-claimed driving range spans between 459 kilometres for the AWD trims to 590 kilometres with the RWD variant. It sits on Merc’s AirMatic Air Suspension for its ride comfort and dynamic ability. This also allows the EQE SUV to increase its ground clearance by an extra 30mm, suitable for AWD variants that also come with an Off-Road mode.

The First Electric AMG SUV
Mercedes has introduced the EQE SUV with the AMG-specific performance version as well, same as its latest electric sedans. The EQE AMG can be had in two variants - EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+. Using the same 90.6kWh battery pack, the EQE 43 AMG claims to offer a driving range of up to 488 kilometres, and the EQE 53 offers 470 kilometres. The dual electric motors in the EQE 53 4MATIC+ have a combined performance rating of up to 697PS and 1000Nm of torque.
Apart from this, the AMG version additionally gets a retuned suspension, electro-mechanical roll stabilisation, high-performance brakes (ceramic brakes available as an option) and a unique AMG sound experience. The air suspension is also improved with adaptive dampers and chassis roll control for better handling.
The MBUX HyperScreen Is An Option
The EQE SUV flaunts Mercedes Benz’s latest MBUX-powered, 56-inch HyperScreen as an optional extra. The single curved piece of glass covering all of the dashboard houses a digital driver’s display, centrally placed touchscreen infotainment unit and touchscreen interface for the passenger too.
Other features of the Mercedes Benz EQE include a four-zone climate control, Burmester 3D Surround sound system, leather-free interiors, and the ‘Energising Air Control Plus’ air purification system.
Host Of Active Safety Features
High on safety, the Merc EQE features lane-keep assist, brake assist, attention assist, adaptive cruise control, and a parking assist. With optional packages, you can add more driving assistance safety features. It also comes with passive safety features like rear seatbelt alert, the latest restraint systems and numerous airbags.
India Launch Expected
Mercedes announced that it will begin global deliveries for the EQE SUV in 2023, but did not state a market-wise timeline. We’re expecting Mercedes to launch it in India possibly late next year. The EQE is expected to be priced around Rs 1 crore and would rival the BMX iX and Audi e-Tron. The manufacturer already has the EQC and the locally-assembled EQS 580 on sale in India and plans to launch the EQB seven-seater as well.
