Update 24/04/2017: Maruti Suzuki Unveils New DZire
The third-generation Swift DZire is likely to be launched in India this year ahead of its donor car, the all-new Swift.
It was just a matter of time before we got to see the new Maruti Swift DZire as Suzuki already revealed the third-generation Swift last December in its home country, Japan, and later in March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show. And here we are with the production-spec version of the third-gen Swift-based compact sedan that was recently spied at the automaker’s Manesar-based facility. Several reports suggest that Maruti has commenced the production of the new Swift DZire which indicates that the automaker might as well be planning to launch it before the new Swift.
Only the rear and side profiles of the DZire have been spied and are certainly the most important parts since the front fascia, like always, will be identical to its hatch counterpart with subtle changes. It has always been an uphill task for automakers to integrate a boot in sub-4m dimensions. And the current DZire (launched in February 2012), in particular, looks the oddball among its peers. Even the first-gen model (not a sub-4m sedan) wasn’t awe-inspiring either. However, it didn’t bother the people buying this car as it went on to become the most-selling sub-4m sedan in the country. Though newer and relatively better-looking rivals arrived in the market lately, none could dent the sales of this nameplate. That said, Maruti has finally come up with a Swift DZire that is more pleasing to the eye this time around.

To begin with, the roofline of the new DZire now appears more sedan-like with smooth curved edges. Looking at the spy shots, it seems as if Maruti has made alterations to its A-pillar as well, which isn’t upright like the new Swift (characteristic design element of the hatch) and the outgoing DZire. The rear windscreen looks more raked than before and its C-pillar now seems relatively well integrated. The boot lid has a rounded lip and features vertically sweeping tail lamps (might get LED lighting like the new Swift). There’s not doubt that it does look better than the outgoing model, but it’s too early to comment on this. Also, the new DZire has an uncanny resemblance with the rear profile of the latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class from certain angles, particularly its rear three-quarters!
Besides all this, the 2017 Swift DZire will share its platform – Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform – and features with the new Swift and is expected to carry forward its current set of powertrain options.
