Audi A3 sedan to be unveiled at 2012 Geneva Motor Show, India launch imminent

Audi India is mulling to bring Audi A3 sedan to India at an extremely competitive price of Rs 20 lakhs. The Czech manufacturer had showcased the concept model of the Audi A3 sedan at the Auto Motorund Sport earlier. Now, Audi is all set to showcase the completely ready model at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show that will soon be into production. The Audi A3 sedan is apparently developed based on the Volkswagen’s MQB platform.

Audi is the Czech subsidiary of Volkswagen and we have seen the sister concerns sharing a common platform in the past, a couple of times. If the rumours are to be believed Audi has plans to unveil the A3 hatchback as well during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. This is a step from Audi India, where the luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW are working to introduce the relatively low-priced models in the country. Mercedes-Benz had made their intentions well-known to launch Mercedes-Benz B-class hatchback.In addition, Mercedes-Benz is considering to launch the Mercedes-Benz GLK to position against its upcoming competitor Audi Q3.

As for BMW India, the leading luxury brand is soon going to launch a new addition to the BMW series in the form of 330d convertible. On the other hand, BMW is said to bring its Mini series in India by 2012. The Mini Cooper is likely to be launched at Rs 25 lakhs with an intention to build a brand image for the manufacturer rather than a volume driver to challenge the rivals, Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Beetle in the premiere hatchback segment. Among the many upcoming launches slated from the three luxury brands, Audi India holds the trump card in form of competitively priced Audi A3. Skoda Superb and Honda Accord could be its potential rivals in the D segment sedans.
