Audi begins production of its next generation A6 in India

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, has announced the start of production of the all new Audi A6 in India in Aurangabad. More than 2,000 units of the next generation Audi A6 will run off the production line every year, in the initial years, at the Group’s Aurangabad facility. The official start of production was announced in the presence of Kurt Romeiss, Senior Manager Quality, Audi A6, Jürgen Krieger, Senior Manager PreSeries Center, Audi Neckarsulm and Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India. Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman, Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
“The production of the all new Audi A6 underlines our growing presence in the Indian market and reiterates our long term commitment to customers in India. The commencement of production of this next generation Audi A6 is in line with our long term strategy for India and is a precursor to its much-awaited launch later this year,” said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.
“The Audi A6 is one of the most successful business sedans worldwide and with the introduction of this seventh generation A6, we continue to offer our customers with exciting products that are progressive, sporty and sophisticated - reflecting the core essence of our brand DNA ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’. The new Audi A6 perfectly blends the advanced technology of the new Audi A8 L and the design features of the new Audi A7 Sportback, and is the first true luxury business limousine in its segment. The Audi A6 has played a significant role in our exceptional performance in the Indian market and we are confident that the new Audi A6 with its distinctive appearance, dynamic performance and superior technology will set new benchmarks in the luxury car market in India,” he added.
“The Start of Production and the related investment associated with it, confirms the importance of German automotive companies in Maharashtra,” said Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman, Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai, “It is an investment which further diversifies and strengthens the dense economic cooperation between Germany and India”.Manufacturing of the new Audi A6 will take place in 16 work cycles on one production line at the Aurangabad plant, securing local employment for 126 individuals for the next years to come. The new Audi A6 will be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines.
The brand with the four rings also produces the Audi A4 and the Audi Q5 in Aurangabad and has produced around 5,000 cars since the commencement of local production in September 2007. Audi India aims to manufacture more than 4,600 units in 2011, compared to 2,466 units last year. By 2015, Audi India targets to roll out up to 6,000 units each year.In 2011, Audi India has seen launch of a series of class-defining products, beginning with the Audi A8 L, followed by the super sports cars, Audi R8 V10 and Audi R8 Spyder. Audi India recently launched its design marvel, the Audi A7 Sportback and the high performance Coupé, the Audi RS 5.
The Audi model range in India includes Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi RS 5 Coupé, the super sports car Audi R8 and the Audi R8 Spyder available across the country: in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai West and Pune. Further developments include Coimbatore, Delhi West, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai South and Surat.
