Audi India eyes small towns

If one thinks, luxury cars are just metro cities’ cup of tea, Audi India is here to prove him wrong. Audi is planning to roll out luxury cars in smaller cities and towns of India. Recently a study highlighted that the middle segment i.e. cars between Rs 20 - Rs30 lakh, are consistently doing well in India even as the overall auto market records a plunge in sale. The German car giant enriches its network to get on high-volume models such as the Audi Q3 SUV and the smaller sedans like the Audi A3 in India, both of which are generating handsome sales globally for Audi.

As it undertakes its journey to become the second largest contestant in luxury car segment, Audi India cannot overlook the enormous potential of growing middle class in India. Audi India has realized that small towns and cities are the lifeline of the country and most of India's wealth is cluttered in these cities. Luxury cars are becoming the status symbol for every family in these tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

The company launched a new dealership in Ludhiana this June and will start its dealership at Surat this week. The German giant is aiming to double its dealerships to around 25 by end of 2012 as even Lucknow, Indore and Coimbatore are on the list from where Audi will launch luxury cars. 3,655 Audi cars are sold till August maintaining a growth of 95% year-over-year. The company has outnumbered BMW sales and now is eyeing to displace Mercedes by 2013.

Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India is particularly happy with the sales of the brand. He places his confidence outright by saying that Audi will exceed its target of selling 5,000 units this year. The car maker will also consolidate its operations in West Delhi and South Mumbai by opening sales outlets. For this about 600 employees will be hired by Audi India and its dealer partners by the end of 2012. The company, which has invested around 30 million Euros in India so far, is finalising its investment plans till 2015.
