The baby luxury SUV is finally arriving to our shores
-
The Q2 made its debut as Audi’s baby SUV in 2016 and has only just been given a mid-life facelift.
-
A new teaser from the German carmaker suggests that the Q2 is about to be launched in India this month.
-
Based on the teasers, we can say that we’ll be getting the pre-facelifted Q2 in India.
-
The Q2 would be positioned under the upcoming new-gen Q3 but would not be lacking in comforts.
-
It will likely be offered in India only with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a DCT automatic.
The luxury SUV market is probably more stratified than the mass market, with many sizes to choose from. Audi India has released now a new teaser for its latest offering in India, which looks like the brand’s smallest SUV, the Q2. It is expected to launch here later this month.
As the name suggests, the Q2 sits below the Q3, which is currently discontinued in India and was first introduced in global markets in 2016. Audi has recently premiered the facelifted version of its baby SUV with some cosmetic tweaks, tech updates and a revised engine range for the European markets. Based on the teaser, it seems we’ll be getting the latest model or the pre-facelift version.
The facelift gives the Q2 a sportier front end with an updated bumper, grille and new LED matrix headlamps. Its rear also gets a revised bumper and new taillamps. Audi has also introduced new colour options for the facelifted model to appeal to the younger crowd. Inside the cabin, the only changes visible are with the air vents and drive-select lever. The rest of the Q2 seems unchanged so even the one that’s coming to India will still get the digital cockpit instrument cluster (not standard) and the outdated looking 8.3-inch multimedia infotainment (MMI) system, though it's easier to control with the swivel wheel in the central tunnel.
In terms of comforts, the Q2 is expected to get dual-zone climate control, connected car tech, optional Bang & Olufsen sound system and a wide range of driver assist systems. In the Euro-spec, the Audi SUV gets a choice of different assist packages which includes functions like adaptive cruise control, parking assist and lane departure warning.
While Audi is launching the facelifted Q2 in Europe with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150PS of power and 250Nm, we might get a more powerful 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. The India-spec model is likely to get it with the 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission only. The Q2 won’t have any direct rivals in India but it will be competing against the likes of the BMW X1, Volvo XC40 and even the Mini Countryman. Audi’s baby SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh at launch.
