CarDekho has been constantly informing you about the government of India's decisions on the quadricycle category for the roads. It seems like the introduction of quadricycles in a new category may get delayed as the Indian government is expected to consume more time to address opposition and concerns of auto makers like Tata Motors, TVS and Maruti Suzuki. Few days back, the government of India discussed about the clearance for the entry of a new category, quadricycles, and it was expected that the vehicles could ply on the Indian roads by the October, 2013.
These companies asked Oscar Fernandes, transport minister to provide more time (about 6 to 3 years) before giving clearance to quadricycles. The decision of delaying will surely help these companies, as they will get a time to develop their quadricycles, but it will surely be a shocker for Bajaj India, which is still waiting to launch its RE60, unveiled at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. Earlier, the chairman and MD of Tata Motors, Cyrus Mistry and Karly Slym respectively, had opposed the government's move to bring quadricycles early. It shows the company's concern about this new vehicle, which could hit the business of small car manufacturers. Quadricycles are bigger than the auto-rickshaw but smaller than a compact car.
