Maruti Alto is still topping the charts, even after experiencing a 9% decline in sales, which might have been caused by the introduction of Renault Kwid.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the only recent launch that has managed to enter the top ten best selling cars list for the month of November. The latest offering from India’s largest automaker has managed to affect the sales of two of the best selling hatchbacks in India, one of which is the company’s very own Maruti Swift and the other is its arch rival, the Hyundai Elite i20. Effect of the new launches can also be seen in the sales of the car that is currently topping the charts for sales in the month of November 2015, Maruti Alto.
The leader, Maruti Alto experienced a decrease of 9% in its overall sales as compared to its sales for the same month last year and this can be attributed to the introduction and success of Renault Kwid, however the French automakers offering could not secure a place in the top ten list with only 5,469 units sold. This can be attributed to the limited production capacity, which is unable to meet the overwhelming customer demand.
Maruti’s latest offering is standing true to the automaker's expectations of it, as the premium hatchback has managed to jump to the 6th slot with 9,074 units having been sold in the month of November 2015, beating its primary competitor, the Elite i20 with only 8,264 units sold. As a result of which, the Elite i20 experienced a sales decline of 22% as compared to its sales in November last year and Maruti Swift, which generally held its own as one of India’s top 3 best-selling cars, was sweep down to 5th position because of a 34% decline, selling 11,859 units.
Going forward, the scenario is further going to change with the introduction of Mahindra KUV100 on 15th January next year. The vehicle will be giving birth to a new segment of mini SUVs. If Mahindra manages to put KUV100 price right, then it could make life difficult for the existing contenders in the segment.
