Cars in India have taken a huge leap where fuel efficiency is concerned. Another such car to show some exemplary mileage numbers is Chevrolet Beat diesel. The General Motor India's new Chevrolet Beat diesel with 25.4 kmpl is now the most fuel efficient car surpassing the Tata Indica eV2 which was until now claimed to be the small car to record the highest mileage of 25 kmpl in the country.

The body International Center for Automotive Testing (ICAT) has acknowledged the small diesel car as the most fuel efficient car in India after the auto major has endowed the Beat diesel with a minor engine overhaul to see such a huge improvement in the mileage numbers from the original 24 kmpl to 25.4kmpl. It is more or less the similar case as seen with Tata Indica eV2 which was later introduced with a similar improvement in the 1.4 L diesel engine to emerge out to be the most fuel efficient car.

The improvement has come at the right time when the global car industry is gung ho about the mileage numbers and are striving to produce the cars with lowest fuel consumption levels as quite evident from 2012 Tata Nano which despite the petrol engine delivers near about the same mileage of 25.3 kmpl. The car industry has undergone a major shift and the car makers are working hard to deliver the best with petrol and the diesel cars alike. Right from the concept cars displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo in India, the auto giants have shown what they can do with some phenomenal numbers on Volkswagen XL 1 diesel concept and Tata Nano CNG with 111 kmpl and 30-35 kmpl respectively.
