Beijing government authorities recently announced that they would reduce the number of the new cars which will be entering the Chinese auto market by 2011. This step is being taken to improve on the traffic conditions in the capital of China.

As per the Beijing government officials, the government will only sanction 240,000 passenger cars to get registered by 2011 via licence lottery system.

After the new traffic rule applied, it will be only one-third of the new cars which will be registered in this calendar year. Government will apply the new rule from Friday.

The Beijing government authorities agree that the restriction on registration with few other measures like increment in the price of parking ticket in the city centre, strict traffic rules would help the city traffic to ease down.

Li Shaoming, Deputy Director of Beijing Traffic Management Bureau said that, looking at the city's traffic, it will be quite difficult to improve it directly. But these strict measures will surely help in easing the traffic and reduce the traffic jams.

It was being speculated that the government can be more stringent in issuing new number plates by next year which has resulted in an upsurge in the car sales in December, 2010. As per the auto market reports, as many as 20,000 units were sold in the first week of December, 2010 when compared to the last year's sale of 9,000 cars in the same time.

Beijing is among the worst affected city with air pollution across globe and with the increasing number of private cars it is worsening the situation. As per the officials, 4.8 million cars were registered in Beijing on Thursday and as many as 750,000 new cars will be rolling out on the Beijing streets.

Chinese auto market is the fastest growing auto market in the world but with this stringent laws coming, it is speculated to effect this growth adversely.
