If you have ever shied away from a Bentley because it couldn't go faster than 200mph, well, you have no excuse now. The Flying Spur W12 S places itself squarely at the top of the range and is the first car with the Flying B to break the 200mph (322kmph) barrier, with a rated top speed of 202mph (325kmph).

This would've been a fairly straightforward exercise if we were talking about a stripped out, performance-focussed lightweight vehicle. But the W12 S does things with a hint of arrogance that only a Bentley can pull off. Let's take a lesson in physics here. The W12 S is a four-door sedan that is twice as long as the sofa in your living room and weighs close to 2.5 tonnes.

To propel something like that to eye-watering speeds needs some serious firepower, which is courtesy a 6.0-litre, W12 engine, which has been tuned to produce 635PS of power and 820Nm of torque. The result, as we've made abundantly clear by now, is a top speed of 325kmph and a 0-100kmph time of just 4.5 seconds! The Bentley gets a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system, which splits the power in a 40:60 ratio.

On the aesthetics front, Bentley has done just enough to differentiate it from its 'slow' siblings. The W12 S gets a gloss black treatment on the grille, window surrounds, rear bumper, door-handle inserts and headlight-washer caps. Those with keen eyes will also spot a black tinge on the headlamps and the tail lamps, and tiny 'W12 S' badges on the D-pillars. The massive 21-inch wheels wrap up the design beautifully!

The interiors are just as bespoke as the standard version which, in traditional Bentley fashion, is handcrafted. It is doused in sporty black leather, and satin carbon-fibre trims are available on demand too. Other goodies – such as W12 S monikers on the headrest and the scuff plates, a three-spoke 'Sport Plus' steering wheel and knurled gearshift paddles – are standard.

We think the W12 S reminds us that Bentley too can have a sense of humour. A massive limousine that can shame sportscars? Sign me up for one, please!
