The globally known Daimler trucks have entered the Indian market and are ready to rule under the brand name BharatBenz trucks. DICV, short for the Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Limited has chalked out an aspirational growth plan. This growth plan is meant to commit firmly to the Indian market and achieve the leading position with superior quality products. Recent times have seen an immense growth in the commercial vehicle segment; in last six years the annual sales have reached close to 800,000 units which are more than double of the figure six years back. This growth is an evidence of the improving economic conditions of India; the current stature of India as the third largest economy in Asia represents growth across all sectors.
If the trucks segment is considered singly then the benefits and growth on account of the immense development in the infrastructure is pretty evident. In India the 65 percent of the freight requirement is catered by the truck alone which can be seen as a great potential for further growth of trucking industry. The company Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Limited is eyeing to capitalize on this market’s potential. Recently Daimler trucks India has opened a new facility at Oragadam near Chennai which is 160 hectare big and is equipped with state of the art services and equipments; the total investment in this facility is Rs. 4400 crore.
