BMW 2-Series Active Tourer line-up updated

BMW has expanded its 2-Series Active Tourer line-up, with the addition of three new turbocharged engines and an all-wheel drive system. A four-cylinder petrol engine in the 220i, and a three-cylinder and four-cylinder diesel mill under the hoods of 216d and 220d respectively, has joined the former 2-Series' portfolio comprising of 218i, 225i and 218d.
The 220i Active Tourer will come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, that develops 192 bhp and 280 Nm of peak torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 230 km/h. The 220d Active Tourer also comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but it's a diesel, rated 190 bhp and 400 Nm of maximum torque. Another diesel engine addition in the line-up comes in the from of 1.5-liter three-cylinder mill, doing its duty in the 216d, capable of 116 bhp and 270 Nm of torque. With these figures, the car sprints 0-100 km/h in 10.6 seconds, and goes up to 195 km/h. Both four-cylinder engines (220i and 220d) comes mated to an automatic eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while the 216 d's three-cylinder diesel mill comes geared with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Apart from new engines, the 2-Series now also offers an option of BMW xDrive, that will be available for the two top engine variants of the car, except 216d. According to the company, “The intelligent all-wheel drive system not only optimises traction and ride stability in all road and weather conditions, it also enhances the car's dynamic performance on corners.”
