The diesel engine in question that is now offered in two variants, 320d Sport and 320d Luxury Line, is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder motor that produces 190PS and 400Nm while mated to an 8-speed steptronic automatic transmission. In typical BMW fashion, power is sent to the rear wheels only and the 320d Sport comes with four driving modes: Comfort, Ecopro, Sport and Sport+. BMW claims the diesel variants of the 3 Series can return 20.37kmpl.
While the feature list of the 320d Sport and Luxury Line is almost similar, being an entry-spec diesel variant, the former loses out on some equipment. This includes the bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity, ambient lighting, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Having said that, it does get an 8.8-inch touchscreen central display, three-zone climate control with rear AC vents, a rearview camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a sunroof.
The 3 Series takes on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Jaguar XE.
