From the looks of it, BMW is facelifting much of its entire range of cars before the new year brings with it the new models. One such model is the BMW 5-Series which, as we have seen from the various camoflauged test models, will feature major design changes at the front and the rear. Here we have TopSpeed with a rendering of the BMW 5-Series facelift incorporating the changes they expect to see in the new model.

While this is simply an expected rendering of what the 5-Series facelift will look like, we will have to wait till the Frankfurt Motor Show, 2013 where the car will be officially unveiled. Word on the automotive grapevine is that the changes in the 5-Series facelift are most centered around the exteriors, with little changes to the interior. From what we can make out in the rendering, the exterior looks seem to be heavily based on the new 3-Series. The current Corona shaped headlamps will probably be replaced by the hexagonal ones while the bumper will get  design re-vamp along with new air intakes . We also expect a new grille to show up on the 5-Series with the headlights tapering into the it as a seamless unit. This is one of the most prominent feature that the 5-Series has borrowed from the 3-Series.

Coming to the interiors, we do not expect to see many changes. However, it would be a safe bet to assume that BMW plans to introduce the latest version of the iDrive multimedia system in the 5-Series along with a configurable instrument display. We also have very little information on the new engine apart from the fact that the N55 engine will be replaced in the 535i which will instead house a turbocharged straight 6 mill. We also expect the new engine to be slightly more fuel-efficient than the current one.
