BMW’s most affordable sedan, the 2 Series Gran Coupé, was launched in October 2020 in India. The carmaker has now introduced a Black Shadow Edition of the sedan based on the top-spec 220d M Sport variant. Priced at Rs 42.30 lakh (ex-showroom), it is costlier than the variant it’s based on by almost a lakh. BMW has said that only 24 units of the limited edition model will be made available via its online platform. Bookings will open on December 7.
While it may seem contradictory, the Black Shadow Edition model can be had in two exterior shades: Alpine White (non-metallic) and Black Sapphire (metallic). To distinguish itself from the standard 2 Series Gran Coupé, the Black Shadow Edition gets additional M Performance cosmetic parts. This includes a blacked-out front grille, outside rearview mirror caps, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and exhaust tips worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
Inside, it gets an all-black layout with black leatherette upholstery to enhance the sporty appeal of the limited edition variant. Apart from that, it comes with the same set of equipment as the 220d M Sport variant that includes ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, and panoramic glass roof. Safety is taken care of by six airbags, attentiveness assistance, cornering braking control (CBC), side-impact protection, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

This special edition model features no changes under its hood. BMW offers the Black Shadow Edition with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that pushes out 190PS and 400Nm. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. The sedan can complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.5 seconds. Even the driving modes remain unchanged: ECO PRO, Comfort and Sport.
While the Black Shadow Edition has no direct rivals, the 2 Series Gran Coupé takes on the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan and Audi A3.
