BMW Launches 3GT Diesel Sport Variant At Rs 46.6 Lakh

The Sport is the most affordable 3 Series Gran Turismo on offer in India

BMW has launched a new variant of the 3 Series Gran Turismo in India. Christened the Sport, it is overall the third variant of the 3GT on sale in the country. The 3GT is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The only petrol variant on offer on the 3GT is the M Sport, which costs Rs 51.2 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).

The diesel-powered 3GT Sport, which has now been launched, is priced at Rs 46.60 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). It is Rs 2.6 lakh more affordable than the diesel-powered 3GT Luxury Line. That makes the 320d Gran Turismo Sport the most affordable variant in the 3GT’s lineup.

Being the base-spec variant the 3GT Sport misses out on features such as adaptive LED headlamps and the 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster that are being offered in the other two variants. However, it gets sport seats for the driver and front passenger, a feature that was earlier limited to the M Sport variant only.

Under the hood, the new 3GT Sport will be powered by the same 2.0-litre (190PS/400Nm) diesel engine with 8-speed automatic transmission that powers the 3GT Luxury Line. The 3GT M Sport, on the other hand, is powered by a more powerful (252PS/350Nm) petrol engine.

In India, the BMW 3GT doesn’t have any direct competition. Price rivals include the likes of the Volvo S60 Cross Country (Rs 44.26 lakh), Mercedes-Benz C-Class saloon (Rs 39 lakh to Rs 46 lakh, non AMG models) and the Audi A4 (priced between Rs 41 lakh-Rs47 lakh).

The exterior of the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Sport is dynamic and eye-catching with the newly designed LED headlights coupled with LED rear lights. Typical BMW proportions, four doors with frameless windows, a coupe-style, gently downward-sloping roofline and a large automatically opening and closing tailgate define the distinctive exterior character of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Sport while the L-shaped lights at the rear underline the broad shape of the vehicle. The two-litre four cylinder diesel engine of the BMW 320d Gran Turismo produces an output of 140 kW / 190 hp and produces a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 -100 km / hr in just 7.7 seconds.

The eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission performs smooth, almost imperceptible gear shifts. At any time, in any gear, the transmission collaborates perfectly with the engine, enabling it to develop its full power and efficiency. For even greater driving pleasure, the eight-speed Steptronic transmission is available with steering wheel paddle shifters.
